The French Room is quite the culinary destination for you and your guests. It’s the best place to take your family, specifically the mothers and grandmothers in your life. “Tea at the Adolphus” has become synonymous with The French Room and is the perfect location to have a girls’ day, celebrate a special occasion, or do something elegant for a change of scenery.

My sister and I took my mom for afternoon tea for her early birthday celebration, and it was such a lovely event that I want to share our experience to inspire you to plan your tea service at the French Room.

About The Adolphus

The Adolphus Hotel has been open since 1912. Beer magnate Adolphus Busch started it as he wanted to build the first luxury hotel in the heart of Downtown Dallas.

Since opening, the hotel has welcomed guests like Ronald Reagan and George HW Bush. Their esteemed guest list also includes Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip.

You will participate in the rich history and culture while joining dignitaries and VIP guests. The Adolphus Hotel’s address is 1321 Commerce St, Dallas, TX 75202, in the heart of Downtown.

Staying at the Adolphus Hotel

If you are the type of traveler who appreciates a luxe experience, you need to book a stay at the Adolphus Hotel.

In addition to their highly recommended tea service, the Adolphus has multiple dining options offering a diverse culinary scene. Drawing inspiration from various destinations in Europe, you will find delicious food whether you make a reservation for tea service at The French Room or choose to dine at City Hall Bistro, Otto’s Coffee, or Rodeo Bar.

Because I live in the Dallas Fort Worth Metroplex, I have yet to have a reason to book a stay for myself at the Adolphus Hotel. However, a weekend staycation at this property may be in order very soon.

The Adolphus offers suites with a private terrace, and I can already envision a morning routine of sipping Earl Grey tea as I take in the sights of Downtown Dallas.

High Tea in The French Room

You will want to use their valet parking to get to your afternoon tea. The valet option makes driving right up to the entrance convenient and easy. Especially for the ladies in tea attire, aka heels, it saves you from walking on the downtown streets in less-than-comfortable shoes.

You can expect two courses during your tea service at the Adolphus Hotel. First, you will start with either champagne or a non-alcoholic cider, and this first course includes the cutest finger sandwiches and tea cakes.

I remember having tea sandwiches as a little girl, but having a traditional afternoon tea experience as an adult is much better.

We had three different teas poured for us, depending on where we were on our courses. We had a muscatel Darjeeling, a Darjeeling India, and black tea. All delicious!

For your second course, you will have the most flavorful scones served with seasonal preserves and double cream, followed by tea cakes and pastries.

Make sure you reserve The French Room in advance, especially if you plan to visit around a holiday, like Mother’s Day or the weekend. The calendar fills up fast, sometimes weeks or months in advance.

Holiday Tea

The holiday season at the Adolphus gets crazy busy, but it is a beautiful place to catch up with friends in an intimate setting. I’ve gotten together with girlfriends in November and December, and it really is a fun place to schedule a girl’s date.

If you can book an experience in December, it is magical. Consider this a Christmas gift for your mom or special lady. Be sure to follow along on their website to see when they start accepting holiday reservations. Linked HERE.

Loose Leaf Teas

To create a tea experience at home, you must buy loose-leaf teas for your in-home tea service. There are many great loose-leaf tea options, so do a Google search to find your favorite brands. It is different having afternoon tea at home versus the fabulous French Room, but it’s still fun now and again.

In addition to loose-leaf tea, I recommend getting some bone China if you want your in-home tea experience to feel extra fancy. I have a sandwich tray and multiple tea cups with saucers. Having tea at home with your bone China set makes you feel like a British Royal. Or is that just me?
